Cheer Guidelines

Why Cheer: Cheerleading requires athleticism, strength, flexibility, coordination, and dedication. With its great physical rewards, cheer is also a social, team-based activity that can help boost kids' self-confidence and leadership skills.
Practices: We begin practices in August (Date TBA, most likely the second week in August). We will practice Tues Wed and Thurs nights from 6pm – 7:45pm. (Please be on time for pick-up.) in September we will move indoors - Space to be determined. We will practice indoors Tuesday and Friday nights. We also will be doing Tumbling at Energy Fitness on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm. There is a separate cost for this that is paid directly to Energy.
Games: As a squad, we are committed to cheering each week for the Newton Youth Football teams at both Home and Away games. We cheer rain or shine. Most games are scheduled on Sundays, but be aware, there could be a Saturday game based on the Baystate League schedule. Please arrive at games on time, in uniform and ready to warm up.
Competitions:
Competitions begin in early October. Our squads participate in the Baystate League Invitational, Local Competition, Mass State Championships, and Regional Competitions. The dates for this year's competitions will be:

Parents will be asked to volunteer and help out at the various competitions.
Uniforms:
The Newton Mustangs will provide a top and skirt. Please be prepared to purchase additional items to complete the uniform. A complete list of required accessories including hair bows, sneakers, undergarments, warm-up pants and jackets will be emailed to you with details on where to purchase.

American Youth Football (AYF) requires that each Cheerleader is certified. Below is a list of the required documents for each Cheerleader to be certified.
